RECAPTY PRIVACY POLICY

reCapty LLC ("Recapty," "we," "us," or "our") operates the Recapty mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use our App on iOS (Apple App Store) and Android (Google Play Store) platforms.
By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, do not use the App.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your first name, last name, email address, and username. These are required to use the App.
Profile Photo: You may optionally upload a profile photo after account creation.
User Queries: When you use the "Learn More" feature to ask questions about books, we store your queries and the responses to provide you with a history of your requests.
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
Reading Position Data: We collect and store information about your reading position in books to provide accurate, spoiler-free recaps. This data is stored both locally on your device and on our servers.
Recap History: We store records of recaps you have generated to allow you to access your recap history.
Usage Data: We collect analytics data about how you use the App, including features accessed, actions taken, and general usage patterns. This data is used for internal purposes such as improving the App and conducting A/B testing. We do not use third-party advertising analytics or tracking SDKs.
1.3 Camera and OCR Usage
How It Works: The App uses your device's camera to capture an image of your book page. This image is processed entirely on your device using your operating system's built-in OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology—iOS's Vision framework or Android's ML Kit.
Image Handling: The photo you take is never stored, uploaded, or transmitted. The image exists only temporarily in your device's memory during OCR processing. Once the text is extracted, the image is immediately discarded.
Data Transmitted: Only the extracted text from the OCR process is sent to our servers. This text is used solely to identify your current reading position in the book so we can provide spoiler-free recaps.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
• Provide, maintain, and improve the App
• Create and manage your account
• Generate spoiler-free book recaps calibrated to your reading position
• Respond to your "Learn More" queries about books
• Maintain your recap and query history
• Analyze usage patterns to improve the App (internal analytics only)
• Conduct A/B testing to optimize features
• Communicate with you about the App, including updates and support
• Comply with legal obligations
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information in the following circumstances:
3.1 Service Providers
We use third-party service providers to help operate the App, including providers for:
User authentication
Cloud infrastructure and data storage
Search functionality
AI processing for generating recaps and responses
Payment processing (handled entirely by Apple and Google through their respective app stores)
These providers only have access to information necessary to perform their functions and are obligated to protect your information.
3.2 Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information if required by law, legal process, or government request, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.
3.3 Business Transfers
If Recapty is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change.
4. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us at hello@recapty.com. Upon account deletion, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal purposes.
5. Data Security
We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical security measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Your Rights and Choices
Account Information: You may update your account information through the App settings.
Account Deletion: You may request deletion of your account by contacting hello@recapty.com.
Camera Permissions: You may revoke camera permissions at any time through your device settings. Note that this will prevent you from using the position-detection feature.
7. Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at hello@recapty.com and we will delete such information.
8. California Residents
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):
• Right to Know: You may request information about the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you.
• Right to Delete: You may request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions.
• Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your CCPA rights.

9. International Users
The App is operated from the United States. If you access the App from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States. By using the App, you consent to this transfer.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated Privacy Policy in the App and updating the "Effective Date" above. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
11. Platform-Specific Information
11.1 iOS (Apple App Store)
The App does not use Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework because we do not track users across other companies' apps or websites for advertising purposes.
11.2 Android (Google Play Store)
The App complies with Google Play's User Data policy. We do not use advertising IDs or engage in cross-app tracking.
